Fishing can be long, boring, and disappointing if you don't catch anything (especially for a 3 and 5 year old) so we were hoping to not leave empty handed....however, I do believe the odds were in our favor.
If all else failed we could have easily reached in and grabbed a few.
When we first got there we didn't have much luck.
But then we bought some fish food and our luck changed.
First Lilia
Followed quickly by Sophie.
Both girls were grossed out/scared by the floppy fishes and wouldn't get close to them to do the typical "first catch" photo op.
I did manage to get this one of the proud fisherman/girls.
So then what? Well we told Lili we were going to go get them cleaned and ready to eat.
EAT?! That is not what Lili was expecting!! She thought that you go fishing to bring home a new PET fish. She had bonded with it, named him, and was ready to take it home and give it a bath, put bows on it's head, and have sleepovers with it.
Here's a pictures seconds after Rich broke the news to her. The other picture is of the girls watching their pet fishes get prepped for dinner. They lasted only a few minutes before they had to turn away, (probably not a good idea to let them watch the worker whack the fish against the sink to kill it, slice it's tiny body open and casually throw it's innards to the side) Lili, with tears in her eyes.
Although Lili won't let us say "fishy" in front of her any more because it brings back too many painful memories, we had a great time on our first fishing trip. Next time they come they want their own PINK fishing rods.
