{Cue Mission Impossible Music}
On Saturday, Sophie celebrated her 5th birthday with 5 friends....spy style!!

The invites read:
TOP SECRET MISSION
SECRET AGENT: (name of friend)
MISSION DATE: 01.07.12
MISSION TIME: 13:00-15:00
MISSION DESCRIPTION:
Your Mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help Agent Sophie Reeve celebrate her 5th birthday.
MISSION LOCATION & INSTRUCTIONS:
Please report to Training Command and Control Center where you will be required to give the secret passcode "Sophie is 5" at the door. You will be undergoing secret agent training so be sure to come prepared in dark, comfortable clothing.
You can confirm your mission acceptance via morris code or email (my email)
This message will self destruct in 5...4...3...2...1...
..and then the invitation blew up. Don't ask me how I did it, a magician never reveals their secret. Not really, but that would have been cool.

The agent recruits arrived:

Their first mission: to draw pictures of bad guys and fill out their Secret Agent name badge where they had to come up with their "code name".
For the next mission Officer Rich took the potential agents through their first test: Maneuvering through the trip wire to deactivate the bomb. Let me just tell you, it was INTENSE and these mini recruits took it so seriously.

If they made it through the trip wire they had to snip one of the strings to deactivate the bomb. If they chose the wrong string, the bomb would explode. Luckily our house (a.k.a. Training Command and Control Center) is still intact, these recruits were top notch and passed their first test with flying colors.
(P.S. We had Mission Impossible and James Bond music playing in the background to add to the overall feel of coolness)
Next mission: Shooting range. We took the "bad guy" pictures the kids drew and had the recruits test out their shooting skills.

Let's just say "Watch out bad guys!" We only train the best here at the TCCC.

Our next training mission was "Pass the Bomb". If you let go of the bomb (a helium filled balloon), you were out, and if the music stopped while you were holding the balloon, obviously, you were out (a la "hot potato"). This was a definite favorite of the recruits. As a spy, you can never be too prepared to handle bombs - and you would hate to be holding the bomb "when the music stops" if you know what I mean. Very important training mission.
On to the next mission: The obstacle course. Spies have to be in good shape so it was important to test their gross motor skills. The recruits had to first maneuver through the soft squishy chairs, hop over the couch, climb up a ladder and pop a balloon, go under the blanket, wind through the squishy chairs again, and lastly climb under the table. All done as fast as they can.

After all that hard work we stopped for a little well deserved cake and ice cream. On the menu, bombs and mint icecream. When Sophie asked me to make a bomb cake I was a little worried. Luckily, my WONDERFUL cousin Gaelle gave me some silicon half circle molds so I used those to come up with these little mini bombs which seemed to fit the bill.

Not to toot my own horn, but they were yum. My birthday cake attempts are usually very primitive or a flop so I was happy these turned out semi-decent.
We filled the time while we waited for others to eat by playing "I Spy". You can never go wrong with that game. The final mission for the recruits was a scavenger hunt around the house. On their last clue they found their "Spy Gear". The essential items needed to become a spy. Disguise, explosives, and a notebook + invisible ink pen.

And with that they were official spies. They all passed with flying colors.

It was a super fun party, one of the favorites that I've done. Easy, cheap, and the kids loved it...calling each other their code names, and, at this age, not quite sure if they were seriously going to blow up or not...you never know! ;)
